There are a lot of social media geeks, few listen to hip-hop.

Social media geeks weren’t incredibly impressed with iTunes’ lackluster social network launch of Ping. There were few artists to follow and even fewer friends (find me, I’m Kendra D!); Only a few of your recent purchases appeared in your profile and users never seemed to get that darn photo uploader to work. Most notably, there was no integration of Ping and iTunes. The 14,000+ songs you spent years curating proved fruitless in Ping, which operated separately from your library.
The new update allows users to “like” or “post” a song to their Ping account directly from the library browser. Users will also find joy in the Ping sidebar, which will allow them to view updates from artists and friends without leaving their library.
It’s still no Last. Fm—which catalogs and quantifies how users interact with their iTunes library, even the not so legal Kanye West leaks and free mixtapes unrecognized by Ping and Genius— but in the Apple fashion, Ping can only get better, there are always bugs in their early releases.
